A Fragment From the End of Growth Hormone
Human growth hormone is a protein of 191 amino acids. In the 1990s, researchers in Australia began studying its C-terminal end, the region spanning roughly amino acids 176 to 191, to see whether that segment alone carried any of the hormone’s effects on fat metabolism in experimental models. AOD-9604 is a modified version of that fragment, with a tyrosine added at its starting end. It is a short peptide and does not resemble the full hormone in size or structure.
Research Focus
Because it is a fragment, AOD-9604 has been studied mainly for what it does not share with growth hormone. Researchers have investigated whether it acts at the growth hormone receptor (reports indicate it does not bind it in the way the full hormone does), and how it influences lipid metabolism, specifically lipolysis and lipogenesis in fat cells, in rodent models and cultured adipocytes. A smaller group of studies has looked at cartilage and connective tissue in animal models.
How it relates to the full hormone
A useful way to think of AOD-9604 is as a tool for separating one region of growth hormone from the rest. It does not affect IGF-1 levels in the way growth hormone does, according to the published animal data, which is part of why it is studied separately.
Supplied Format
Refresh Research offers AOD-9604 as a single 5 mg vial of lyophilized peptide, sealed in glass. The 5 mg figure is the total content of the vial.
- Keep the unopened vial refrigerated or cool and away from light.
- Your lab’s procedures will govern reconstitution and storage afterward.
Documentation for AOD-9604
A certificate of analysis accompanies each production lot, and the full set sits in our COA / Lab Reports archive. Find the one with the lot number from your vial, and confirm the identity and the 5 mg quantity.
