Description
One of the first growth hormone secretagogues
GHRP-6, short for growth hormone releasing peptide-6, was developed in the early 1980s, years before the receptor it acts on had been identified. Work with GHRP-6 and related synthetic peptides helped lead researchers to the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a), which was later found to be the receptor for the stomach-derived hormone ghrelin. That history makes it a useful reference compound for anyone studying how this signaling system was mapped.

What researchers have investigated
In animal and cell models, GHRP-6 has been used to examine pulsatile growth hormone release from the pituitary, interactions between secretagogue signaling and GHRH, and the downstream effects of ghrelin-receptor activation on feeding-related pathways in the hypothalamus. Some studies have also looked at its activity in cardiac and gastric tissue models. These are laboratory observations; Refresh Research makes no claims about effects outside a research setting.
How it differs from newer secretagogues
Later compounds such as ipamorelin were developed partly to be more selective, with less effect on hormones like cortisol and prolactin in animal studies. GHRP-6 is therefore often treated as the broader, older reference point in comparative experiments. If your project pairs a secretagogue with a GHRH analog, you will also find CJC-1295 (no DAC), sermorelin and tesamorelin in our vial catalog.
Handling notes
The 5 mg quantity suits small or exploratory projects. Keep the sealed vial cold and dry, protect it from light, and note the lot number before reconstitution so your records stay traceable.
GHRP-6 is also notable for the strong ghrelin-like feeding response reported in rodent studies, a property that set it apart from later secretagogues and made it a frequent positive control in appetite-circuit experiments.
Documentation you can check
Independent testing is completed for each lot we carry. To review results, take the lot code from your label to our COA / Lab Reports page, where the matching certificate is posted.
