Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that acts at the ghrelin/growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a). It is regarded as one of the most selective compounds in its class, because in research models it stimulates growth hormone release with little effect on cortisol or prolactin compared with earlier secretagogues such as GHRP-6.

Because it acts on a different receptor from GHRH analogs, ipamorelin is frequently studied alongside CJC-1295 without DAC (Mod GRF 1-29) or sermorelin.
